Today is the final day of our Novena to St. Francis for Divorced Catholics. And during this time that we've been praying together, I've shared with you a lot of the struggles that I had as I was going through my divorce. But today I get to share with you the best part.
The best part of my story
Thirty-three years ago, my ex-spouse walked out. And leading up to that time, I had lost three children in miscarriage and was eventually told by the doctors that I would never have children. I felt like I was wandering in the desert. I struggled with extreme anger, extreme depression, and loneliness. I really didn't know where I fit in anywhere.
I went through the annulment process and I did receive a decree of nullity. But I also experienced a tremendous amount of healing during that time. And seven years later, I met the man that I'm married to today. And we just celebrated 26 years of marriage in June.
But the best part is, despite what the doctors told me, we have three beautiful, healthy adult children. And God has blessed me in so many incredible ways. And that's really why I share my story with you—because I don't want you to give up hope.
The crown jewel: imitation of Christ
Today we're going to look at the crown jewel of St. Francis's experience, which is his imitation of Christ. St. Francis wasn't a great saint because of his suffering or his poverty or trying to be a channel of peace. St. Francis was a great saint because his life was an imitation of Jesus. He wanted to be as much like Jesus as he could possibly get.
That's why it's so important to stay close to Jesus and the sacraments, because that is where you'll find healing. And just keep asking God for peace in your heart.
Novena prayer to St. Francis
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
St. Francis, you have walked with me these past days and have been a great source of inspiration for me as I struggle with my difficulties. From today forward, I will continue to look to your life's example, especially in your imitation of Jesus. Ask God to grant me the graces I need to follow in your footsteps as I continue down this difficult road. Most of all, I ask for peace in my heart and for this special intention. I pray these things in Jesus' name. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…
St. Francis, patron of peace and families, pray for us.
Come back tomorrow
Thank you so much for sharing these days of prayer with me. Always remember that I am praying for you. Please pray for me too.
